The Tigrigna ethnic group is tightly knit and evry traditiona. They inhabit the densely populated highland Awraja Akeleguzay Awraja Hamasien Awraja Seraye.Tigrgna are scarce in the rest of the lowlands of Anseba, Mensaa,Gash Setit,Barka and Semhar.Conventionally, the people are sedentary farmers and are overwhelmingly Christians, with just a small minority of Muslims, who are known as Jeberti. the very distinct plaited hairstyle of the women has bin depicted for centuries in local art. The people have always been assertively attached to their land.

Tigrinya, spoken by at least half the population, in theAwraja Akeleguzay, Hamassien, and Seraye. Tigrigna is also spoken by the people of Tigray in northern Ethiopia; however, the Tigrigna spoken in some parts of Tigray shows a considerable difference from the Tigrigna that is spoken in Eritrea or the northern parts of Tigray.
